Photo Elysée honors the writer, photographer, and great traveler Ella Maillart (1903-1997) with an exhibition dedicated to her travels through Central Asia in the 1930s. In 2025, her complete works were recognized by UNESCO as a work of universal value and included in the Memory of the World Register. On the occasion of this globally significant recognition, this exhibition celebrates the unique life journey of a woman who shaped the history of travel. Through her photographs and travel reports, Photo Elysée retraces the four major journeys the explorer undertook in the 1930s to the Soviet Union, China, Afghanistan, and Iran. The exhibition highlights the comprehensive documentary scope of her work and its importance for understanding the cultures she encountered on her travels.
