Description
Lecture as part of the autumn series 'Alles Beton?'. Martin Valier speaks under the title 'Reuse and Structural Engineering Thought Differently_Economically_Innovative' about interdisciplinary work at Penzel Valier. Concrete has shaped the civil engineering profession as well as the entire construction industry for decades – technically, aesthetically, and culturally. As a building material, it is cost-effective, extremely easy to use, and therefore almost indispensable in many areas. At the same time, hardly any building material is so much in the focus of criticism today: its energy-intensive production and high CO₂ emissions demand a fundamental rethink. This change is used as an opportunity to discuss current positions, questions, and perspectives of civil engineering and high-rise construction. Civil engineers from practice and research provide insights into their daily work through concrete projects and questions. The focus is on new approaches to dealing with structural systems, alternative materials, hybrid construction methods, as well as changed thinking and working processes. The autumn series explores what opportunities arise from this for a sustainable, resource-conserving, and economical building culture.
