Description

Armand Savioz, born in Val d’Anniviers, grew up in Sierre before studying at ETH Zurich and later in the United Kingdom. As a neuroscientist and researcher retired from university hospitals and the University of Geneva, he focused on memory and its loss in dementia. This also motivated him to contribute to preserving the history and culture of the small world of Anniviers, shaped by transhumance. The strategies once used in the valley—particularly ecological living and coexistence—can inspire our world today, which has become small. These reflections are the subject of a book: *Anniviers, the Western Yin and Yang – Anthropology of Alpine Life of the Past*, published by Georg. As part of the event on October 17, 2026, organized to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the “Maison du Remuage,” Armand Savioz will give a lecture on nomadic life in the Sierre region and in Val d’Anniviers.
