Public Guided Tour of the Gondo Fort

Description

The infantry fortress in the Gondo gorges played a central role in border defense during the Second World War. You can visit the fortress on a guided tour.
The Stockalper path now passes through the 350-meter-long connecting gallery. You will be able to admire the bunker premises with the artillery rooms, the soldier's lounge, the troop quarters, the central gallery, the officers' room, and the kitchen accompanied by one of our experienced guides. In the soldier's lounge, plans, photos, models, and objects will explain the fortress museum and the history of the military presence at Simplon.

Private guided tours for groups: on request, the Gondo fort opens its doors to groups outside the regular Saturday guided tours (from June to October). Public transport: If you arrive by postal bus, postal bus stops are located north and south of the fortress (Simplon Dorf, old barracks or Gondo, Ramserna). In both cases, it takes between 40 and 60 minutes to walk to the fortress. We recommend combining the visit with a hike on the Stockalper trail. Access: the Fort Gondo fortress is accessible by private vehicle or postal bus from Brig or Iselle. There are few parking spaces at the north entrance (very difficult access due to construction).
