Visit to the village of Ernen

Description

You will visit the town hall, also called Zendenrathaus, with two prison cells in the basement, a torture chamber on the ground floor, and on the upper level a rich collection of acts and documents dating from the 14th and 15th centuries – all testimonies of Ernen's dominance in the Conches Valley. During the visit, passing by the enormous Bergahorn (a tree about 360 years old), we will admire the magnificent Saint George parish church and other remarkable buildings such as the Am-Hengart house (1584), which once served as a depot (Suste); the Martin-Matlis house (1631); the largest house in Ernen: the Capucine house (1511), and finally the Jost Sigristen house. In this last one is the homeland museum, which shows the life and works of Jacob Valentin Sigristen (1581), the last head of the old Valaisan Republic before the French invasion. We will also stop at the Tellenhaus (1576), with the oldest frescoes (in Switzerland). | Meeting point in front of the tourist office
