Description

As part of the Artist-in-Residence format «Sonic Boom», eight artists and ensembles from contemporary and experimental music have the opportunity to realize their own concert formats, sound performances, and music theater. Over a period of two years, they will design and present two evenings each, in which they can express their individual artistic approaches. Accompanied by an in-house discourse format and mentoring program, the series provides space for exchange between audience, scene, and artists.
Starting from the questions «What if?» and «Where to next?», Phoebe Bognár combines concert, performative essay, installation, and experimental practice into a hybrid format in «vessels». Together with Sharon Chan and Charles Kwong, she examines the omnipresence of the flute and how it can be extended. The focus is on its potential to appear again and again in different forms and contexts, as well as through various teaching, playing, and performance practices. In a collaborative process, the project explores how the instrument can be rethought beyond institutionally shaped boundaries without losing its roots. At the intersection of theory, practice, and installation, «vessels» opens a space for critical engagement with the development of the instrument and its role in contemporary culture. New perspectives on the relationships between flute, human, context, and community emerge. Participants and additional information:
