Blues performed by a singer from the land of chanson? It works wonderfully with Véronique Gayot. Her unique voice spreads so much passion and raw energy that she has a loyal fan base not only in France but now all over Europe. In 2020, she also appeared live at the legendary WDR Rockpalast. In autumn 2023, Véronique Gayot released her brand new album Be A Man together with her band. Smooth to scratchy and somehow hardly to be tamed – that's how it sounds when Véronique Gayot sings the blues. Besides the obligatory comparisons to Janis Joplin, the name Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin is often mentioned as a reference. That may be true. In fact, Véronique Gayot has much more to offer. "Soul, skill, and passion come together and celebrate the blues, which can also sometimes be a bit soulful," wrote a reviewer about the 2018 debut album Wild Cat. The 2021 follow-up Animal picked up seamlessly here and expanded Véronique Gayot's spectrum towards classic rock and gospel. While the albums feature original compositions, the live program also occasionally includes cover versions such as "Gimme Shelter," "Sixteen Tons," or "Personal Jesus," to which the Frenchwoman and her band always add a proper rock refreshment. Véronique Gayot has meanwhile convinced and thrilled not only the makers of the WDR Rockpalast and its audience. "I experienced a small delicate person who gave everything, whether vocally or in performance," says a concert report from autumn 2021. "But the best singer, who also masters the harp excellently, is worthless if the men in the background do not give their best. But that was the case. The guys also gave everything, whether it was a slow blues or a hearty boogie. The necessary pressure was there, whether emotional or with the necessary power. Everything just fit together." The musical companions are Yannick Eichert on guitar, Jérome Wolf on bass, and Jérome Spieldenner on drums. Even if the three mostly act in the background, they do not need to hide. Each one of them is a proven master of their instrument. Samples of this are especially provided by guitarist Yannick Eichert, who regularly gets the opportunity to celebrate his virtuosic skills in interplay with Véronique Gayot's energetic and powerful voice.
