For young singers aspiring to a professional future in choir or ensemble singing, temporary or permanent employment with one of the broadcasting or opera choirs or participation in independent, internationally active professional ensembles is an attractive goal. Against this background, Holger Speck, as artistic director of Vocalensemble Rastatt and professor at Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe, initiated ensemble academies in 2021 and 2025 with practical choir work in a professional context, workshops, and lectures. In November, another edition will follow, for the first time in collaboration with Christuskirche Karlsruhe, whose cantor Peter Gortner is distinguished by demanding choir work and has invited Vocalensemble Rastatt to a joint project. Selected singers from the Chamber Choir of Christuskirche will work together with Vocalensemble Rastatt and students of Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe. The focus is on the stylistic, aesthetic, and vocal technical peculiarities of early German Baroque music, exemplified by Heinrich Schütz's sacred choral music. Additionally, 10 soloists from Vocalensembles Rastatt will interpret Domenico Scarlatti's extraordinary "Stabat Mater".
Who is Vocalensemble Rastatt? Vocalensemble Rastatt and the original sound ensemble Les Favorites, conducted by Holger Speck, are among the international top class. They stand for excellence, vitality, and authenticity. Compelling, historically informed interpretations have established their excellent reputation, as well as passionate and emotional music-making. The outstanding quality of the ensembles is evidenced by the Grammy nomination for the CD production of Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro" with Deutsche Grammophon. All CD, radio, and TV productions (Carus, SWR, Radio France, Deutschlandradio Kultur, Deutschlandfunk) have been highly praised internationally:

Not surprisingly, Vocalensemble Rastatt served as cultural ambassadors of the Federal Republic of Germany on the political world stage of the G20 summit at the Baden-Baden Festival Hall.
The formation Les Favorites is the instrumental accompaniment of Vocalensemble Rastatt and plays on original instruments in various ensembles from the continuo group to the orchestra with internationally renowned musicians. The name is derived from the Lustschloss Favorite of Margravine Sibylla Augusta of Baden, with its sensuous architecture. It is part of the princely estates of the Baroque city of Rastatt, the Baden-Württemberg homeland of both ensembles. In the nearby residence castle, music lovers from all over the country gather annually for the summer concert series "Klingende Residenz".
Vocalensemble Rastatt & Les Favorites perform, among others, at Baden-Baden Festival Hall, Bremen Music Festival, Cologne Philharmonic, SWR RheinVokal Festival, Würzburg Mozart Festival, "Heidelberger Frühling", European Church Music Festival in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Karlsruhe Handel Festival, Stuttgart European Music Festival, Schwetzingen Festival, Wartburg concerts by Deutschlandradio Kultur, Merseburg Music Days, and more.
The flexible choir also enjoys excursions into the world of opera with great success: with Edita Gruberová in "Lucia di Lammermoor" and "Norma" (recordings by Nightingale), with Rolando Villazón, Thomas Hampson, Diana Damrau, among others, in Mozart's operas "Die Entführung aus dem Serail", "Don Giovanni", "Così fan tutte", and "Le Nozze di Figaro" (recordings by Deutsche Grammophon). With Klaus Maria Brandauer and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the ensemble performed Mendelssohn's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at the Bremen Music Festival. There, it also collaborated with the German Chamber Philharmonic under Paavo Järvi on Beethoven's "Ninth". The ensemble celebrated a great success with John Neumeier's ballet project "Dona nobis pacem" after Bach's B minor Mass in Hamburg. Der Spiegel wrote, "... that is world-class". Institutional supporters are the state of Baden-Württemberg and the city of Rastatt.
