Description

After the end of World War II, Nobel laureate Thomas Mann (Hanns Zischler) and his daughter, actress, author, and cabaret artist Erika (Sandra Hüller), embark on a journey through a Germany in ruins – from Frankfurt in the American occupation zone to Weimar under Soviet control. For the Goethe anniversary, words of comfort, approval, and forgiveness are wished for on both sides of the inner German border from the greatest storyteller. Between euphoric Wagner heirs and literarily skilled generals, Germany's most important writer is honored and sometimes insulted, while the drama of his own family quietly escalates. It is the first time since the war that Thomas Mann returns to his homeland, from which he once fled into exile. A journey into the wounded German soul, which is meant to heal – for Erika and the magician, as his children often called Thomas Mann, it becomes a journey into the innermost self. A film screening by the "Leinwandlounge" of the Verein allerArt at the Remise Bludenz in cooperation with the Jewish Museum Hohenems.
