Under the Northern Lights

In "Under the Northern Lights," the Zurich Vocalino Choir takes the audience into a fascinating world of sound, light, and movement. Nordic and contemporary works unfold a spherical, touching soundscape that merges into an immersive overall experience through projections and the light design of light artist Xaver Wenziger. The historic Predigerkirche Zurich further enhances the effect of this sound and light journey with its special atmosphere.

The program combines musical breadth, radiant intensity, and emotional depth. It is complemented by two instrumental world premieres by the Swiss composer duo Matteo Pagamici & Michael Künstle as well as an arrangement by choir director Beat Dähler, musically supported and expanded by the orchestra ANIMUSiker.

The dramaturgical structure of the evening follows three phases of light:

• Awakening of the light: Before the northern lights appear, the world lies in darkness. Cold, silence, and vastness create the space in which the first glow can be sensed. The earth holds its breath before the sky awakens.
• Dance of the light: The light awakens. Solar storms hit the earth's magnetic field and ignite the sky. The northern lights dance in movement, color, and energy. A play of light and shadow lets the sky resonate.
• Echo of the light: After the spectacle, calm returns. The northern lights fade, but an echo remains. Traces of light lie on the earth and within us. The outer glow becomes an inner light that quietly continues to burn.
