Sergei Rachmaninoff's Trio élégiaque No. 1 in G minor combines late Romantic passion with deep sorrow – an intense musical requiem. Franz Schubert's famous Notturno in E-flat major D 897 unfolds a floating, intimate sound poetry between tenderness and melancholy. Johannes Brahms’ Piano Trio No. 2 in C major op. 87 finally moves from powerful, almost orchestral sound richness to lyrical refinement and great emotional density. An evening that makes the entire expressive range of the piano trio tangible, from romantic longing, virtuosic brilliance, to chamber music intimacy.
