Repeatedly, in the exhibition "Swans World," images of swans gliding lightly on water appear, sometimes white, also colored or in dark black. They almost seem to float. Cornelia Brintzinger's works are consistently characterized by a floating multiplicity, contrasting and merging real and imagined worlds. In her images, she combines screen printing, photography, painting, and collage according to her own rules, which allows her to achieve unexpected appearances of techniques and create surprising surface textures. This is clearly demonstrated by her screen prints, which are created not on paper but on primed wood, giving them a poetic, slightly soft-focused radiance. For Konstanz, this is also a return to the roots of an artist whom many people in the city still remember. Brintzinger grew up in Konstanz and attended the comprehensive school. Later, her artistic path led her to Karlsruhe and Berlin. Her life was marked by a severe personal history: she lost her hearing completely at an early age. She passed away in 2017 after a serious illness. In Brintzinger's work, the forest plays a central role as a motif, paired with water, streams, and lakes in various variations. She was often in the Black Forest, especially in her last years. However, she breaks through the romantic tone of the subject and transforms it into another, contemporary romance. Entangled undergrowth and the partial coloring of individual image areas convey the feeling of a journey into another, ghostly world. In a second layer of the image, figures woven into the foliage are vaguely recognizable; Brintzinger calls this series "Ghosts." During her Berlin years, collages with photographic views of the city were created. Faded elements from painted Japanese paper are added to the images of Landwehr Canal or the Treptow district—these works, extended by a spatial dimension, become individually marked objects, which one would like to unfold and explore more deeply. Contrary to its usual focus on contemporary art, the Kunstverein Konstanz presents "Swans World" as a retrospective of a much-too-early deceased artist, whose independent and artistically convincing work should regain the visibility it deserves. The originally planned exhibition for this period, on the occasion of the art prize awarded every two years by the city of Konstanz and the Kunstverein Konstanz, has unfortunately been canceled, as the city of Konstanz has cut the prize for this year due to financial reasons.
