Ticino's Autumn Magic: Hiking & Biking Among Palm Trees, Ridges, and Peaks

A weekend in Ticino’s golden autumn. Two days where exercise, panoramic views, and indulgence come together in perfect harmony. We’ll be staying at the Hotel Piazza Ascona, right on the lakefront promenade. All rooms feature a balcony with a lake view. Day 1 – Hike or Bike & Hike in the Maggia Valley
We’ll meet up on Saturday morning in Locarno. We’ll get in the mood together over coffee and fresh croissants before taking a short bus ride to Ascona. Before long, we’ll be on our way—split into two groups, each with a very different experience. One group will take a taxi to the starting point and follow a scenic ridge hike up to Pizzo Leone, high above Brissago. With every step, the view over Lake Maggiore opens up. The second group combines biking and hiking. We’ll arrange rental bikes for you—so we’ll ride leisurely along the Maggia River toward Verscio before hiking uphill on exciting trails. On the way back, a short stop at Ponte Brolla is a must—where the Maggia River winds its way impressively through the rocks. In the afternoon, we’ll meet up again in Ascona, and of course, a group dinner at a typical Ticino restaurant is a must. Day 2 – Panoramic Trails on Cardada
After breakfast, the boat takes us from Ascona to Locarno. From there, we take the mountain railway to Cardada, where one of the region’s most impressive panoramas unfolds before us. We set out on our circular hikes toward Cimetta along scenic trails. One group will take a mountain hiking trail (T3), while the other will follow a slightly more alpine route (T4). The groups might even meet along the way before we wrap up the weekend with a leisurely stop for refreshments. Afterward, participants will make their own way home from Locarno. • Saturday: Bike & Hike or hiking only (Pizzo Leone)
