The Phantom in the Room

Description

As part of the Artist-in-Residence format "Sonic Boom," eight artists and ensembles from contemporary and experimental music have the opportunity to realize their own concert formats, sound performances, and music theater. Over a period of two years, they will each design and present two evenings, expressing their individual artistic approaches. Accompanied by an in-house discourse format and mentoring program, the series provides space for exchange between the audience, scene, and artists.
"The Phantom in the Room" is a staged concert that transforms an intimate white space into a cathedral of shadows, tipping the scene into a feverish dream. The starting point is the gaze into the eyes of the shadow. From there, a space opens where the human voice detaches from its physical origin and becomes an untamed, freely floating phantom.
As the voice intensifies, the boundary between body and environment blurs. In an intense sonic exorcism, the singer expels her whispering seducer and asserts her presence and self-determination. From the trembling fragility of a single breath, an overwhelming sound storm grows, seemingly ready to burst the space. The reality of the white room dissolves. What remains is the immediate, physical force of the phantom in the room. Participants and additional information:
