From October 9th to November 1st, the Pellegrini Gallery in Murten presents the new exhibition The Mountain Is You by the Polish artist Sandra Sendyk, who lives in Switzerland. Her sculptural paintings of alpine landscapes transform after dark, revealing hidden silhouettes through phosphorescent pigments. What if the mountain we climb is not outside of us, but within ourselves? Sendyk explores the mountain as a metaphor for personal transformation. Inspired by her connection to the alpine landscape, she views mountains not only as powerful natural formations but also as mirrors of the challenges, changes, and discoveries that shape our lives. She combines acrylic and oil paints with three-dimensional textures and phosphorescent pigments. The rough surfaces convey the physical presence of the mountains, while hidden elements open up a more intimate level. After dark, subtle silhouettes appear in the paintings. Nearly invisible in daylight, they represent an inner voice, a hidden self, or an inner companion – that part of us that keeps its own light even in difficult moments. The contrast between the visible mountain and the hidden figure reflects the duality of human experience: the external challenges we face and the internal change that can result from them. For Sendyk, mountains embody resilience. Shaped over a long time by wind, snow, and light, they become a metaphor for the gradual process of change. Fear, loss, ambition, insecurity, and self-awareness can become mountains that we must climb. By confronting them, we discover not only what we can overcome but also who we will become. With a scientific background, Sendyk approaches painting through observation, experimentation, and engagement with different materials. This curiosity combines with artistic intuition in her work with texture, pigments, and light. Material experiments thus become a way to make visible the invisible layers of human experience. The Mountain Is You connects landscape and self-portrait, nature and inner experience, inviting visitors to consider their own inner landscape: What is my mountain – and what could I discover within myself?
