After their return in 2025 with the singles “Nightcrawling” and “You Can Be So Cruel” and signing with the indie label FLG, the London indie rockers The Howlers are back with their new single “Viper,” which will be released on May 7. At the same time, the band announces their second album “Heavy,” set to be released on October 9, a bold and intense statement that marks the most defining chapter for The Howlers. Driven by a pulsating riff, an uncompromising rhythm section, and raw, urgent energy, “Viper” showcases The Howlers at their most immediate, indie rock’n’roll full of tension, desire, and consequences. The song gives a first taste of “Heavy,” an album where frontman Adam Young takes his songwriting in significantly darker and more impulsive directions.
“Viper describes that feeling of being completely drawn to someone, even though you clearly recognize the warning signs, that urge to make consciously bad decisions just for the thrill of what comes next, no matter the consequences,” explains Young. “You lose yourself together in the moment. But no matter how much you indulge in the Bonnie-and-Clyde fantasy, in the end, you will always get hurt.”
After a period of upheaval at the end of 2024, a new chapter began for The Howlers: frontman Adam Young reformed the band with drummer Toby Richards as a duo, a step that fundamentally changed both the sound and the creative direction, giving the band new clarity and identity.
This restart followed a breakthrough year: the self-released debut album “What You’ve Got To Lose To Win It All” was celebrated across Europe, reaching the Top 10 of the UK Independent Breakers Charts and several placements in independent, vinyl, and physical sales charts. The Howlers received support from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Radio X, and Absolute Radio, as well as international playlist placements on Apple Music and Spotify.
The success continued live: a completely sold-out UK headline tour with 18 dates firmly established the band as one of the most exciting live acts in Britain. This was followed by a European tour with sold-out shows in eight countries, where new material was already tested, ultimately laying the groundwork for “Heavy.”
While the debut album was heavily influenced by themes of grief and personal loss, “Heavy” emerges from a completely different emotional space. The album navigates between desire and consequence, loss of control and reality, driven by the allure of the night, impulsive decisions, and the sobering clarity that follows.
For a band that has always made honesty their trademark and built a highly loyal fanbase with it, “Heavy” feels like exactly the album The Howlers have been working towards all along. With an extensive UK and European headline tour to follow, 2026 could finally be the year the band achieves their breakthrough on a broader level.
