Tao Schirrmachers Collection. Eisbach Treasures

Description

Since 2008, Tao Schirrmacher, European champion in river surfing, has been diving to the bottom of the Munich Eisbach to bring lost items to light. What started with a valuable gold ring has since grown into an impressive collection of found objects and artifacts: jewelry, car keys, watches, cartridges and air pistols from World War II, devotional items, tools, phones, camera equipment, film recordings, and much more. Like the objects themselves, their stories seem submerged and forgotten, hidden deep beneath the surface. But it is not their material value, but their emotional and historical significance that makes them meaningful. An object becomes valuable because it contains memories, tells stories, and establishes connections to people, places, experiences, or special moments. The presentation of this collection arose from the desire to give these objects their stories back—or to tell new ones about them. The exhibition creates further connections and associations between the Haus der Kunst, the Eisbach, and the English Garden. Curated by Sabine Brantl.
