Description

Joan Braderman, USA 2009, 91’, original English version with English subtitles The film tells the gripping story of the New York feminist art collective that published the magazine “Heresies: A Feminist Publication on Art and Politics” (1977–1992). Director Joan Braderman joined the group in 1975 as an aspiring filmmaker and documented up close their exploration of gender roles and power dynamics – and, in doing so, the sweeping social changes of that era. Traveling from New Mexico to Italy, the director reunites with members of the collective, including author and art critic Lucy Lippard, architect Susanna Torre, filmmaker Su Friedrich, and artists Ida Applebroog, Mary Miss, Miriam Schapiro, Harmony Hammond, and Cecilia Vicuña.
