Benoit D’Afrique, Haitian poet, is passing through Neuchâtel to read excerpts from his latest collection, *Paroles en état de siège*, published in 2025 by Éditions La Veilleuse. With veiled words, the poet speaks of exile, wars, and tortured bodies. A committed poetry that denounces migration controls and oppression, a ground for identity, memorial, and poetic research. His memories resurface in a lucid and incisive discourse, with electrifying words. From intimate disorder arises a revolt in verses, against borders and visas, silence and murmurs of disapproval, against the sometimes painful writing of words. "Inspect my passport, it is loaded with places of doubt / of rejection // to heal my wounds / centuries of sponges // the hours of ruins / I have crossed / little by little // I am the sum of the turned nights / that’s why I walk — on the tips of words" Benoit D’Afrique is a Haitian poet and photographer born in Gonaïves. His first text, *Ma Mort*, won the International Poetry Prize in Freedom in 2016. In 2021, he founded the literary and artistic magazine *Débridé*, aiming to bring forth the young voices of contemporary literature. In the same year, he received the Île-de-France writers' scholarship and was among the finalists for the prestigious Léopold Sédar Senghor Prize. At the same time, he conducts writing and reading workshops for young people. His collection *Paroles en état de siège* has been well received by critics, confirming Benoit D’Afrique's place among the prominent voices of contemporary Francophone poetry.
