Others seem to fall silent – until suddenly they are heard all the more clearly. With a symphony by Pieter Van Maldere, Terra Nova Collective brings such a voice back to life. The Brussels composer was by no means a marginal figure in the 18th century, but a musician present throughout Europe, whose works were printed, performed, and collected. Today, his music is at the center of the Quartbuch project: the rediscovery of a repertoire that once was an integral part of European musical life. Mozart also appears in this program from an unusual perspective. His G minor Symphony KV 550 is performed in its original version without clarinets. The perceived absence sharpens the focus: the sound becomes clearer, the musical language more immediate. One of the most famous symphonies shows a different face. Only in the Clarinet Concerto in A major KV 622 does that voice emerge, which was previously missing – no longer just a color in the orchestra, but as a soloist. Played on historical instruments and with basset clarinet, the expanded sound space that Mozart intended for this work unfolds. Vlad Weverbergh conducting the concert while also performing as a soloist gives the program its own dramaturgy: the voice does not come from the outside, but develops from within the orchestra. Thus, 'The voice that is missing' becomes an evening of rediscovery – of a forgotten composer, a familiar Mozart in a new form, and an instrument that, in the end, speaks as if it had never fallen silent. Terra Nova Collective plays on historical instruments. Vlad Weverbergh conducts the ensemble and simultaneously takes on the solo part on the basset clarinet.
