Description
Taiji Quan or Tai Chi Quan
In literal translation, Tai Ji means "The Supreme One" and Quan means "Fist." The term Tai Ji refers to the harmonious merging of Yin and Yang energies into a unity. Quan is understood as a self-contained movement program. Tai Ji Quan thus means a movement program for the holistic promotion of the person with the goal of helping the person achieve a harmonious way of life.
Tai Ji Quan includes three important aspects: the meditative aspect, the health aspect, and the aspect of self-defense.
The various movements in Tai Ji Quan are all based on the so-called basic stances. The decisive factor for these stances is not the arm position but the leg position. The basic stances are therefore to be understood as more than basic movement patterns of human motor skills. When learning the stances, the emphasis is usually on feeling oneself into the stance and experiencing the transition from one stance to the next in a conscious, slow action.
Through muscular relaxation during movement, a progressively deeper inner relaxation can be achieved. It improves health and can be practiced at any age.
