Description

Four works, four sound worlds, and a common pulse: the Symphonic Wind Orchestra aulos demonstrates the full range of sound and rhythm of symphonic wind music. Corigliano's colorful Gazebo Dances meet the impressionistic richness of Ravel's Daphnis et Chloé and the archaic power of Stravinsky's Le Sacre du Printemps. The centerpiece is the world premiere of Stephan Hodel's Philomena Bittet zum Tanz, a commissioned composition by aulos, where personal musical memories collide: Swiss folk music, jazz rock, big band sound, and symphonic soundscapes combine into a music that is both physical and captivating.
