Béla Bartók's Romanian Folk Dances open the evening with archaic power and expressive simplicity. Franco Cesarini's Bulgarian Dances continue this theme, showcasing the rhythmic sophistication of Bulgarian dance traditions. While György Ligeti's Concert Românesc captures the colors of Romanian shepherd music, soprano Diana Schnürpel leads the Mysteries of the Macabre into a virtuosic-expressive play of masquerade and musical wit. Nathan Stornetta's Images Balkaniques finally combine modern orchestral sound painting with the energy of the quintet TRI i DVE, creating a multifaceted portrait of this culturally rich region.
