Description
Conductor: Frank Dupree / Percussion: Meinhard Obi Jenne
Already in his youth, Frank Dupree was interested in music of various styles: as a jazz drummer, as a classical pianist with a passion for modernity, and as a conductor. Eight years ago, he first brought over 600 spectators to cheers when he conducted Beethoven from the piano in Trossingen and then virtuously jazzed as a drummer. Frank Dupree is a welcomed guest worldwide, whether with the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker and as a soloist at London's Royal Festival Hall with the Philharmonia Orchestra London or in a trio with university alumnus Obi Meinhard Jenne (Percussion) and Jakob Krupp (Bass). In 2014, he was named the only prizewinner of the German Music Competition. In 2018, he won the OPUS KLASSIK (Record of the Year). His repertoire spans from Bach to Beethoven, Debussy, Ravel to songs by Kurt Weill and Leonard Bernstein, jazz standards by icons like Duke Ellington, or wildly virtuosic works by Nicolai Kapustin. Included are the Soul Diamonds, the best musicians of the state capital from jazz, blues, R&B, pop, and soul jazz. Founded in 2002, they are probably the most famous and notorious soul band in Stuttgart.
