Dmitri Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 1 concludes the evening in a sparkling, ironic, yet tense sound world. Between virtuosity, parody, and passion, a fascinating arc is spun, in which the trumpet plays on equal footing with the piano – a witty, subtle, and deeply personal work of young Shostakovich.
