Description
Practicing standing on one leg is unfortunately not enough as fall prevention. In this course, we analyze evidence-based movement programs for effective fall prevention focusing on 3D movement programs and practice simple therapy sequences from dance, yoga, tai chi, and martial arts. Content Each year, more than 88,000 people in Switzerland fall, especially the elderly. Physiotherapists play an important role in conveying effective measures for fall prevention for these vulnerable patients. Traditionally, physiotherapists have already dealt intensively with fall risk factors such as postural control, muscle strength, and environmental factors. In recent years, the evidence regarding the effectiveness of multi-tasking interventions and so-called 3D movement programs has been strengthened, and many traditional training programs can be improved and supplemented with this knowledge. In this course, we consider current Swiss and international recommendations for fall prevention. Additionally, we will explore the possibilities of dance, yoga, tai chi, and martial arts for geriatric patients. After completing the course, you will be able to offer a targeted and diverse movement program tailored to your patients for fall prevention. Topics - Risk factors, occurrence, and consequences of falls (epidemiological basics) - Current movement recommendations for older adults and evidence-based fall prevention programs - Yoga, dance, tai chi, qi gong, and martial arts as movement programs in therapy and in courses for fall prevention - Dealing with fear of falling Connection opportunity This course is credited towards the module Fall and Prevention and the CAS Clinical Expertise in Geriatric Physiotherapy. Learning objectives Participants - can describe the societal importance of falls. - know risk factors for falls, can evaluate them in the patient's environment, and suggest preventive measures. - are familiar with the evidence regarding so-called 3D movement programs, especially dance, yoga, tai chi, and martial arts, regarding their effectiveness in fall prevention. - can individually assemble a preventive movement program for fall prevention. - can perform simple yoga exercises sitting and on the mat with geriatric patients, alone or in groups. - can incorporate simple dance sequences into their therapy. - can specifically use exercises from tai chi, qi gong, and martial arts as fall prevention in their therapy plans.
