«STRATA» – stone / voice / resonance

Description

«STRATA» invites you to experience sound in a new way. Over two days, two contemporary music ensembles with different sound worlds meet at Gare du Nord: the vocal ensemble SoloVoices and the sound art trio The Stone Alphabet. Voice meets stone instruments and electronics, complemented by visual art and the space itself.
In multiple layers overlapping, «STRATA» unfolds in four concerts offering different perspectives on listening. The spectrum ranges from focused vocal music to historical electronic sound art and immersive soundscapes, culminating in a joint closing program with several world premieres.
Central to the event are the creation and development of new music. Composition commissions to Cécile Marti, Alina Dzięcioł, Paul Taro Schmidt, and Mathias Steinauer are connected with works from the 20th and 21st centuries, opening new connections between voice, stone, and electronics.
The myth of Orpheus runs as a red thread through the project: his singing is said to have moved not only humans and animals but also made stones weep. «STRATA» takes up this image and transfers it into the present. Thus, a sound universe is created that transcends genre boundaries and invites conscious, curious listening. Participants and additional information:
