Description

A lecture on the colorful history of the České Budějovice transmitter in Husova Colony. Its origins date back to 1944 when it was built as a strategic object of the Nazi occupation administration. Events at the transmitter during the revolutionary days of May 1945 were a pretext for violent acts against the German population. In the 1950s, jammers of foreign radio stations were installed here, operating until 1989. As a result, the transmitter became a subject of interest for Western intelligence services and played its role during the events of August 1968. This year, the transmitter was included in the network of Czech landmarks of the Free Speech Space initiative, awarded the European Heritage Label.
