Description

"... Listen, a star fell with a sound! Don't walk on the grass with bare feet; my garden is full of shards." This touching quote comes from the Finland-Swedish poet Edith Södergran (1892–1923). Her poems and especially their musical settings shape the concert "Stimmungen." It leads through a music program with songs performed a cappella and with piano accompaniment, whose texts, besides Södergran, come from other significant writers in the cultural history of Finland. The texts contain expressive and symbolist allusions, with nature often playing an important role as a mirror of inner states. The music is sung in Finnish and Finland-Swedish and mainly comes from Nordic composers, including Sibelius, Madetoja, and Liimola. The new generation is presented by Cecilia Damström and Silvan Loher, a Swiss composer living in Oslo and an expert on Edith Södergran's literature. His song cycles with texts by Södergran experience their Swiss premiere in the concert "Stimmungen." The singers of the Voce Ensemble for vocal art and the pianist Stefka Perifanova introduce the rich Finnish vocal music and the Nordic nature, where their singing meets the sounds of animal horns played by Balthasar Streiff. Composer Silvan Loher will witness the Swiss premiere of his works on site and give the audience insights into his work. Before the concert, a convivial "Meet & Greet the Artists" invites personal exchange with the musicians in the historic atmosphere of the Kulturkirche Paulus. Welcome!
