During summer holidays, the high school student worked as a farmhand in the Safiental, and as a student, he was a laborer on various construction sites in the Lower Engadine. After his studies, Stefan Gartmann worked for over thirty years as a lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences Graubünden in Chur.
