Description
Pietro Sarno, conductor
Music by Stephen Melillo, Francis McBeth, and Antonin Dvorak
based on Herman Melville's "Moby Dick"
A white whale, an obsessed captain, and a crew on a journey to doom: In "AHAB – The Adventure of Being Human," the City Orchestra takes its audience on an extraordinary musical journey into the world of Herman Melville's Moby Dick. In the spirit of "Entertaining Winds," the concert combines grand symphonic wind music with a gripping story – immediate, entertaining, and with a special something. At the center is Captain Ahab and his relentless quest for revenge against Moby Dick – the white whale that once took his leg. But behind the gripping story of sea, storm, and whaling lies a timeless question: What happens to a person when hatred and the desire for vengeance completely dominate their mind? Ahab's attempt to destroy the supposed evil ultimately leads him and the crew of the Pequod to disaster. AHAB is both concert and narration: A speaker guides live through Melville's story, while the City Orchestra picks up, continues, and dramatically intensifies the action with music by Stephen Melillo, Francis McBeth, and Antonin Dvorak. Language and music alternate, intertwine, and bring characters, sea, storm, and the White Whale to life before the inner eye. Thus, Moby Dick is not only told and not only played but experienced live on stage together by the speaker and orchestra. Tickets: €26 / €21
