Description

The lecture will introduce listeners to the history of the Schlaraffia Prachatitia society, which operated in our town from 1899 to 1938. The talk will cover the history of the satirical Schlaraffia societies, their specific allegorical humor, and the most notable members from Prachatice. We will also learn about the location of the society's meeting room and what was part of its decoration. Schlaraffia faleristics, which the speaker has been intensively studying in recent years, will not be overlooked. An accompanying presentation will showcase preserved artifacts not only from the collections of the Prachatice Museum. Mgr. Jakub Samek studied Teaching for Secondary Schools with a focus on History and Czech Language at the Faculty of Arts, University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. He has been working for six years at the City Museum and Gallery in Vodňany as a documentarian, exhibition organizer, and curator of collections. He is currently also a third-year student in the doctoral program of Auxiliary Historical Sciences at the Department of Archival Studies and Auxiliary Historical Sciences at the Faculty of Arts, University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. His research topic is the badges and orders of the satirical Schlaraffia societies.
