This impressive music, with a wide musical and emotional range, offers a glimpse into the magical soul of the Carpathians, featuring rhythmic sounds, captivating melodies, and beautiful, unique, heartwarming folk songs from Ukraine, Slovakia, and Poland. Brief news: The bandura is an ancient and unique string instrument found only in Ukraine. With its 65 to 70 strings, the bandura produces a particularly wide range of sounds, often described as a 'small orchestra.' Its sound resembles that of the Celtic harp. The Ukrainian bandura originated in Ukraine from a series of similar string instruments. A mural from the 11th century in St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv depicts one of its predecessors. The basic characteristics of the bandura can be described as follows: 1) Since there are no frets, each string produces only one tone, similar to a harp, 2) the instrument has so-called 'high' strings, whose pitch increases from the center to the edge of the soundbox; in contrast, the 'low' strings are stretched along the fingerboard. The musical leader of the traditional ensemble BERISKA, Ms. Tetiana, is a composer of bandura music and the first soloist for bandura and vocals at the Ukrainian Philharmonic Orchestra (Tchernihiv, a region bordering Russia and Belarus). The European tours, which have taken place once a year since the COVID pandemic, not only fund the travel costs and project-related expenses of the ensemble but also support other projects, particularly childcare institutions in Chernihiv, where benefit concerts are also organized, for example, at the rehabilitation center 'Widrodzhennia.'
