And eighty years later, back in this room, Sophie dreams of her mother, her father, and her son. And of Daniel, who sits beside her and holds her hand. A whole life lies between these moments – and a family story. The tableau, which depicts a life in twelve scenes within this room, sometimes seems banal, sometimes funny, and sometimes painful. It repeatedly tells of love between people, which sometimes is not enough and then again so strong that it can build a life. "Sophie" is an extraordinary play because it shows a very ordinary life.
