The fifth edition of the SONDA festival once again brings sound in many traditional and unconventional forms, this time in the newly opened space for contemporary culture, experimental art, and interdisciplinary collaboration CO. LABS in Brno. During the evening, four prominent projects from the contemporary Swiss experimental scene will perform in the main hall: OSZILOT, Julian Sartorius, Violeta García & Hora Lunga, and Noémi Büchi. They will be joined by Czech veterans of experimental sound Gurun Gurun. The contemporary young scene will be represented by creators profiling themselves in the Brno favu label: Orinoko, Nowalover, and HideOut. The duo OSZILOT (Luc Gut and Rolf Hellat) will present a playful performance that uses a system of pendulums and motion sensors to resonate everyday objects into unexpected rhythmic and melodic structures and changing soundscapes. Drummer, percussionist, and sound artist Julian Sartorius creates precise, layered, and organic rhythms through prepared drums and found objects, opening expeditions into the hidden tones of common items. His music bridges the gap between organic acoustic colors and the language of experimental electronics. A wild musical experience is promised by the performance of Argentine cellist and improviser Violeta García together with Swiss producer Hora Lunga. The duo will present their second studio album 4ever from this September at the festival, which connects extended cello playing techniques with electronic sound oscillating between noise, hybrid pop, and avant-garde electronics. The Swiss section will be closed by Noémi Büchi, a prominent figure in contemporary experimental electronics, who will present a sound-intensive live set in Brno, merging deconstructed pop with strong emotionality, rhythmic structures, and precise sound design. The Czech footprint at the festival will be left by seasoned performers of experimental electronics Gurun Gurun, about whom The Wire magazine wrote: "Listening to Gurun Gurun is like traveling in a tinkling spaceship reminiscent of a clockwork – and you have no idea where you will land." The concert evening will conclude with a purely local creation - a live set by artists associated with the Brno favu label. Presenting the entire palette of authors from the students of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno would fill the entire festival evening. Therefore, we have selected a small tasting representing its genre diversity - young producers Orinoko, Nowalover, and HideOut. Throughout the event, an exhibition of predominantly sound art will be open in the small hall, created as part of the Trychtýř project, which has been an integral part of the festival since its inception. New sound objects and multimedia installations for this occasion are being created by a team of authors: Jiří Y. Suchánek, František Hruška, Filip Dobrocký, Frída Kakao, Michal Marenčík, Petr Němec, Sára Bočková, Karolina Raimund, and Martin Schweitzer. As part of international cooperation with the multimedia center KIBLA, the work of Slovenian multimedia artist Tadej Droljc will also be installed. The SONDA festival is organized by SVITAVA – transmedia art lab, z. s. with financial support from Pro Helvetia, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the statutory city of Brno, and the State Cultural Funds. Project partners include the Music Faculty of JAMU, the Faculty of Fine Arts at VUT, ArtMap, Full Moon, CO. LABS, Kibla, and Ars Electronica. - - - The 5th edition of the SONDA festival will continue on Saturday, November 28, at the Divadlo na Orlí with a panel discussion and a series of electroacoustic concerts and fixed compositions.
