Description

SONDA 2026: sound experiments return to Brno after a year. 28.11. Divadlo na Orlí Brno, November 2026 – The SONDA festival, a platform for presenting experimental music and contemporary sound art, enters its fifth year. The second festival evening dedicated to electroacoustic music, spatial sound, and unconventional concert forms will take place on Saturday, November 28 at Divadlo na Orlí. Admission for this evening is FREE, but due to limited capacity, we recommend registering! PROGRAM Panel discussion - "Future of Sound Forms" Audio performance: - CLIMATIC STATIONS (CZ) - Maryia Kamarova (BY) - Aernoudt Jacobs (BE) - František Hruška (CZ) and Ján Podracký (SK) Fixed media - electroacoustic and audiovisual compositions - Sohrab Motabar (IR) [AV] - Dimitris Savva (GR) - Darien Britto (EC/NL) - Maja Wolińska (PL) & Marcin Rupociński (PL): UN-ORGANIC [AV] Spatial sound - installations and compositions - DodekaOTTO - a three-hour set of compositions will be available for listening over two days in a 20-channel installation in the theater atrium. ~~~~ D E T A I L S ~~~~ Climatic Stations is an experimental futuristic radio play. Scattered fragments of news found on a disk from a dystopian future will be available for listening during the journey to the festival – specifically on tram number 4 from Tomkovo náměstí to Cejl. The play comments on the passing environment. The project is directed by Jiří Honzírek and sound designed by Jiří Y. Suchánek. The event at the theater will begin with an open panel discussion with present artists, theorists, and experts. The topic will be a reflection on the present and a look at the possible future development of sound forms and the presentation of music and sound art. Audience participation will be welcomed. Then the concert segment will begin, combining fixed electroacoustic (often multichannel) compositions with less traditional audio performances. Maryia Kamarova, a Belarusian intermedia artist based in Brussels, has long been engaged in quiet acoustic concerts, using small motors and everyday objects to create gentle sounds. Her performance invites focused listening and heightened senses. Belgian sound artist Aernoudt Jacobs is the creator of the installation Humming the Ubique, which he will present in concert form at the festival. The buzzing of hidden signals surrounding us (radiation, cosmic rays, infrasound, magnetic fields...) that we are unable to perceive will be brought to presence in a unique apparatus of sounding colored foils. František Hruška and Ján Podracký are preparing a participatory performance for light sensors and harmonicas as part of the project Trychtýř. The audience will become co-creators of the entire performance. Audio performances will be interspersed with spatial electroacoustic compositions. Tehran-based composer Sohrab Motabar is known for his radical digital sound aesthetics, which he also connects with visuals. Expect abstract digital noise and algorithmic loads from a war-affected area. Greek composer Dimitris Savva often incorporates mythical motifs in his works. Darien Britto studied at the Dutch Institute of Sonology. His work is inspired by the complexity of natural processes and represents detailed work with texture, tension, and synthesis. The detailed audiovisual journey into biological diversity and the subtleties of surrounding reality will conclude SONDA with Polish authors Maja Wolińska and Marcin Rupociński and their new AV work UN-ORGANIC, which premiered this year at the Ars Electronica festival in Linz. A 20-channel sound installation DodekaOTTO will be installed in the theater atrium, where ambisonic compositions from the Sonic Saturday program of this year's Ars Electronica festival will be played over two days. This three-hour set of compositions involved 22 authors from JAMU, the Ionian University in Corfu, and Anton Bruckner University in Linz. This installation takes place in collaboration with the Ars Electronica festival. Evening dramaturgy: Jiří Suchánek The fifth year of the SONDA festival is financially supported by the Statutory City of Brno, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the Pro Helvetia Foundation, and the State Cultural Funds. Project partners include co. labs, HF JAMU, FaVU, Full Moon, ArtMap, Anton Bruckner University, the KIBLA Multimedia Center, and Ars Electronica.
