Solothurn is a wonderful city with a heart and a great tradition. The fifth season, the carnival, is particularly close to the hearts of the people of Solothurn. For a few days there is a state of emergency - as you as a Solothurn resident or Solothurn sympathizer will certainly know! Incidentally, the figures also bear this out: The two big parades, the children's parade and the Chesslete attract around 30,000 visitors every year. Around 1400 active participants are involved in these major events. For the image of the town, but also for its economy, this is a factor that should not be underestimated. There have been carnival parades in Solothurn for centuries. The people of Solothurn have been celebrating carnival since the 15th century. The parades used to be more like a carnival in Nice, with beautiful costumes and magnificent floats. In 1754, a parade with 22 groups was held under the motto "Centennial Calendar". In the past, the parades were subordinate to a dominant theme, whereas today they are made up of a variety of groups, most of which focus on a topical issue that has little connection with the actual carnival theme. Nowadays, Carnival Sunday is eagerly awaited to see what original subjects, costumes and carnival floats can be seen in the parade. It is definitely a great event for everyone to see the Solothurn carnival parade on Carnival Sunday and Carnival Tuesday in the afternoon from 2.31 pm.
