Description

The Nebenraum, which is both a space and a living project, has been promoting artists since April 2022 with different orientations and forms of expression. Based in Gurzelen in Biel, it creates connections between various actors in the cultural scene through openings and exhibitions. The continuous support of emerging artists is at the heart of the space's activities. Biography: Philippe Leu At the intersection of politics, history, and architecture, I try to make the influences in everyday life visible. I experiment with techniques and materials, often working with found objects, which can be discarded items or free objects I collect from the street. I am interested in new connections and approaches to give a visual form to current situations and changes. I work in the fields of video performance, installation, conceptual art, and experimental analog photography, combining various techniques and seeking methods to capture the temporal aspects of change by connecting techniques and materials to document long periods. With this representation, I aim to draw attention to the constant yet one-sided change, a change that is often perceived as growth and knows only one direction: always bigger, better, faster – while everything else is ruthlessly suppressed.
