Description
The 2026 Singing Week / Choir Week is themed “Everything Is Fun on Earth.” In the broadest sense, it’s about “laughter” in music.
The program includes chansons, villanelles, and madrigals from the late Renaissance period (16th century) by the most famous German, French, and Italian composers.
Thematically, the pieces are united by the cheerful, humorous, comical, and whimsical elements of both text and music. Entertainment, amusement, the playful, the witty, the crazy and absurd—all the way to the foolish, the coarse, and the frivolous—all of this was expressed in this music alongside many other more serious themes such as love, suffering, death, and grief, etc. Cheerful, exuberant celebrations over a glass of wine, the joy of lively dancing and singing, as well as humorous and comical takes on frivolous love affairs or mockery of old age are further themes explored in the pieces.
Not only in the lyrics but also in the music, the mood is lighthearted and cheerful, true to the motto “everything on earth is fun”! In addition to daily singing, there is also time for walks or short excursions in the breathtakingly beautiful Surselva region, i. e., the Grisons Oberland. By rehearsing 1–2 Romansh songs, a connection is also established to Switzerland’s fourth national language, Romansh.
