Concert details: The program of Silvester-Nachtklang "Wiener Melange" promises a good mix of Viennese classical music with songs by Schubert, Wilhelm Grosz, and Cole Porter. Enjoy a short Mozart cantata at the end of the year, which impresses with cosmic imagery and, in its first print, evokes ‹general human happiness›. That Schubert and his lyricist Pietro Metastasio are also at home in operatic buffo style is demonstrated by the "Three Songs" D902, where bass-baritone Christian Immler and Andreas Frese at the piano are in their element. Wilhelm Grosz’s "Bänkel und Balladen" (1931), based on texts by Joachim Ringelnatz and Carola Sokol, offers humorous yet somehow profound entertainment in its cabaret style. They will be performed for the first time in a new arrangement (Andreas Frese) for string quartet, piano, and baritone. Grosz’s melodies were so popular that they were covered by Frank Sinatra, Glen Miller, and The Beatles. String quartets by Joseph Haydn and Franz Schubert complement the program, and the sparkling New Year’s Eve finale features evergreen songs by Cole Porter, the ‹Franz Lehár of America›.
