Description
The string trio offers a unique immediacy of sound thanks to its complete transparency. The Mondrian Ensemble presents four works that showcase the breadth of this ensemble’s repertoire, ranging from Bach to Cerha. The program opens with Bach’s austere and heartfelt “Ricercare a 3.” This is contrasted by the emotionally profound miniatures of György Kurtág and the characterful bagatelles of Friedrich Cerha. The program concludes with Beethoven’s passionate String Trio in C minor, Op. 9, No. 3, which breathed new life into the genre with its symphonic power. A program that impressively documents the living tradition of this chamber music form. Johann Sebastian Bach
