Description

Two years after their successful tour celebrating the delayed 40th band anniversary due to the COVID pandemic, SHAKATAK is back in Germany. The British pop-jazz-funk band will showcase samples of a new studio album. On "Eyes Of The World" (Secret Records Limited/ Bertus), it offers a cohesive collection of songs featuring their melodic, partly instrumental lounge sounds. This sound made them famous between 1981 and 1987 with hits like "Easier Said Than Done," "Night Birds," "Invitations," "Dark Is The Night," "Down On The Street," "Watching You," "Mr. Manic & Sister Cool." SHAKATAK still consists of the leading pianist/keyboardist Bill Sharpe, Jill Saward (lead vocals, flute), bassist George Anderson, and Roger Odell (drums). The group, founded in 1980 and reinforced live and in the studio by a backing singer and guitarists, had to cope with the sudden death of Alan Wormald in early March 2023. He had been their guitarist/vocalist since 1995. True to his motto "The show must go on," Keith Winter was brought on board as a logical replacement after a one-month mourning period. He is an original member but had to pause for a long time due to a very rare nerve disease; however, he has fully recovered, is fit on the six-string, and knows the SHAKATAK songs inside out. For their approximately 90-minute performances on this guest tour, the sextet can draw from the full repertoire and demonstrate why they have been sought after internationally for over four decades. Attendees of their shows will confirm what was written in the magazine of the world-famous 'Ronnie Scott’s Club': "Shakatak’s music still sparkles just as much today as when you first heard it. This formation is not just a band; their songs also provide the soundtrack to many people's lives."
