S’GSCHÄNGGLÄÄDELI - Concert for Theremin and Orchestra

Description

At the center of the program is the world premiere of the specially commissioned work «s’Gschänggläädeli» for orchestra and theremin by the renowned Basel composer Raphael B. Meyer. Known for his music for the SRF series «Der Bestatter», Meyer develops the commissioned work in close collaboration with the experienced film musician and theremin soloist Wieslaw Pipczynski, whose lyrical-poetic composition «Herbstgedanken» for strings, piano, and theremin will also be performed.
The composition is a sonically playful, effective homage to the theremin, which here merges with the orchestra in all its expressive possibilities. Meyer's personal memory of his mother's gift shop gives the work a poetic authenticity: «s’Gschänggläädeli» symbolically stands for the childlike curiosity, wonder, and imagination that music can awaken in all of us. General Information

The concert takes place in the Evangelical Reformed Titus Church in Basel and presents a unique combination of theremin and orchestra. In addition to the world premiere of the new work by Raphael B. Meyer, his well-known compositions for the SRF series «Der Bestatter» will also be performed.
