Description

Elinor (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Marianne (Esmé Creed-Miles) Dashwood are young, beautiful, and reasonably well-off girls who only lack love for their happiness, as is often the case at their age. Their prospects drastically worsen when, after their father's death, the fact that they are well-off no longer holds true. They move with their mother (Caitríona Balfe) from the comfort of their spacious family estate, which has been inherited by their father's son from a previous marriage, to much more modest conditions in a small cottage in the countryside. More than the loss of their family home, Elinor regrets that due to the move, she is also leaving behind the charismatic Edward Ferrars (George MacKay), a relative of the new owners. This state of mind deeply troubles her, especially since she prides herself on her rational approach to the world, love included. Her sister Marianne is made of completely different stuff; with her heart on her sleeve, she is ready to give herself to anyone who will take it. The lucky one is the charming John Willoughby (Frank Dillane). Although the older, more sensible sister advises caution, Marianne rushes headlong into love. Will reason or emotion guarantee a person lifelong happiness? Both will have to find out for themselves.
