Description
The Viennese successful production SELF-ACCUSATION is not a drama in the classical sense, there is no plot that develops. Rather, we experience a stream of language that circles the self, holds it, releases it again, and binds it anew. A text that begins like a litany and at the same time repeatedly collapses into itself.
The exceptional actress Stefanie Reinsperger does not play the text – she unleashes it. Dialect changes, tempi, ironic breaks, vocal escalations. A virtuoso fireworks display that uses Handke's text more as material than as an inner exploration space. Peter Handke's SELF-ACCUSATION, premiered in 1966, is in a way a complementary counterpart to the preceding "Audience Insult." The audience is not attacked but elevated to the highest authority, as if it were a court or a god.
In the spirit of "Who lives, disturbs," the text demonstrates the mistakes that accompany every life path. Where Handke tries not to attribute guilty behavior to personal weaknesses, Dušan David Pařízek takes the opposite path: he makes the impersonal personal again.
