Description

With an ambitious concert program, the Schüler-Symphonie-Orchester Baden-Württemberg presents itself in the Weinbrennersaal of the Kurhaus with its this year's program. Under the direction of Christoph Wagner (Stuttgart), the young musicians dedicate themselves to three works of Romanticism, all connected by one thing: they are all in E minor. The opening is the Overture No. 1 op. 23 by Louise Farrenc, one of the most important French female composers of the 19th century, whose works were very favorably reviewed by Robert Schumann. Classical clarity of form combines here with romantic expressiveness and captivating energy. Next is the rarely performed Concerto for Clarinet, Viola, and Orchestra op. 88 by Max Bruch. The focus is on the sensitive dialogue between the two solo instruments, played by Annika Kurz (Music University Munich, Clarinet) and Raphael Kübler (Music University Karlsruhe, Viola). The concert concludes with Pjotr Iljitsch Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 op. 64. Once considered one of the most significant musical phenomena of its time, the symphony is among Tchaikovsky's last three great symphonies. From the mysterious beginning to the triumphant finale, a great tension arc unfolds between fate motif and hopeful apotheosis. The young orchestra looks forward to numerous visitors.
