Description

Once it hatches from the egg, the caterpillar feeds as much as it can. It changes appearance, grows, and transforms into a chrysalis, ultimately emerging from its chrysalis and flying in the air as a beautiful butterfly. We showcase these remarkable stages of butterfly development using the example of the native swallowtail. The exhibition is primarily aimed at children. Throughout their lives, butterflies undergo a transformation known as complete metamorphosis. Beetles, flies, and hymenopterans such as ants or bees also undergo complete transformation. Using the example of a native butterfly, the swallowtail, this exhibition explores the charm of metamorphosis and shows the different stages of development of this fascinating animal. From egg to caterpillar, from caterpillar to chrysalis, from chrysalis to butterfly: each butterfly goes through these stages. Depending on the species of butterfly, the different phases last more or less long. The small exhibition is primarily intended for children. They can actively immerse themselves in the life story of a swallowtail butterfly, observe the stages of metamorphosis, match the caterpillar with the right food, or recognize the scents of host plants. Original objects, expressive illustrations, and various discovery opportunities help this small space make an impact.
