Description

The unloading of the chestnuts takes place in any weather, about three weeks after the harvest. It usually occurs from late October to mid-November. The unloading involves placing the still warm chestnuts into long cloth bags, which are then beaten on logs until all the shells are crushed. The chestnuts are then separated from the shell remnants and cleaned by hand before being returned to their owners. Every year on the day of unloading, the animators from the Centro Natura Vallemaggia, in collaboration with APAV, the forestry office of the VII district, and volunteer friends, offer an educational path for schools around the chestnut harvest in Moghegno, which includes chestnut beating, the balanino, the mill where part of the dried chestnuts is destined for flour production, the chestnut grove, the peat, the chestnut forests, and a fun story. The unloading is carried out thanks to the animators from the Centro Natura Vallemaggia (in collaboration with APAV, the forestry office of the VII district, and volunteer friends).
