Description

The working group of the grà in Moghegno proposes every year the traditional loading and unloading of the grà, to share and pass on the essential method of drying and preserving chestnuts that has characterized the life of the inhabitants of the Valley in past centuries. The loading of the grà takes place in mid-October and consists of weighing and recording the chestnuts brought to the grà by their owners, which are then arranged on the upper grate of the small stone structure. A fire is then lit on the lower floor, generating the necessary heat for drying. The fire will remain lit for the following three weeks and will be monitored daily by the firekeepers until the unloading, which usually occurs between the end of October and mid-November. The loading is carried out by the animators of the Centro Natura Vallemaggia (in collaboration with the APAV, the Forest Office of the VII district, and volunteer friends).
