Description
Sawani Shende-Sathaye is one of the leading voices of contemporary Hindustani music. Raised in a traditional musician family, she combines the melodic clarity of the Kirana-Gharana, known for its subtle elaboration of tone and melody, with the expressive power of the Gwalior-Gharana, characterized by rhythmic precision and formal clarity. As a teenager, she performed before the Indian President; today, she is heard on renowned stages worldwide. She is accompanied by two outstanding musicians: Dr. Mukul Acharya on the harmonium and the Zurich-based tabla virtuoso Shrirang Mirajkar. Together, they explore the fine nuances of North Indian classical music with great musical precision and depth. The program includes classical ragas and khayals as well as semi-classical forms like thumri and selected bhajans. This ensemble offers a rare insight into a vibrant tradition passed down through generations and still among the most demanding expressions of Indian music.
